Northwest Music Festival 2010

Students from LHS recently participated in a music festival at Minot State University. Kaitlin Landman (clarinet) and Steffani Johnston (saxophone) performed as part of the concert band for this year's festival, which was held on November 5th and 6th.
The two day festival features the talents of high school students from around the state of North Dakota, who auditioned to be part of the group. To audition, each student must submit a recording of their playing skills as featured in a prepared solo and selected scales. Each year, hundreds of students audition and a relative few are chosen to participate. The results are outstanding.
After hours of rehearsal time over the two days, students perform a final concert for parents and the general public. This year three choirs and one concert band performed in the final concert. There were a wide variety of selections from classical, to contemporary, to patriotic, and a full house of concert-goers were appropriately impressed.
Congratulations to Kaitlin and Steffani for their accomplishments in being selected to be part of this year's Northwest Festival of Music.

We want to hear about the great experiences you had with your friends, tell us about "bus adventures". Tell us about the Blue Man Group and Million Dollar Quartet. How about the food.

This is your chance to sound off about the trip and tell others what they missed. Respond to comments below.

Chicago Tour 2010

Band and Choir students from LHS left for their trip to Chicago, IL. Students began their trip with a number of fun and enlightening activities such as a trip to the Art Institute of Chicago. There we saw paintings by Picasso, Matisse, and Grant Wood and many others.

We also saw a performance by Blue Man Group. BMG puts on an outstanding show that is part rock concert, part performance art, and part celebration of anything weird!

Check back again soon to see more pictures from the trip.

Day of Music 2010

The Day of Music celebration was a great success this year. Junior high band and choir members began the week with three days of solo and ensemble performances for their fellow musicians. The high school musicians ended the week with a day filled with rehearsals and sectionals with guest clinicians, Charlotte Morey and Jeff Vranna. The concert at the end of the day was outstanding. Both the concert choir and concert band did a great job with their music, and the brass and saxophone ensembles had outstanding performances as well.

Thanks to all of our students for your great efforts and fun performance at this year's Day of Music.
